...Repurposed Chest

I love that today's decorating trends encourage us to take those pieces that we adore and be versatile.  Who says a desk has to be in an office, a buffet has to be in a dining room or a chest of drawers has to be in a bedroom...certainly not me!!

This was an absolutely gorgeous antique chest of drawers.  I adore this style but find them very hard to come by.  It was in bad shape.  The drawers were broken and the finish was a mess but you can't really complain for $60.

This is repurposing and upcycling at its best!  Just love how it turned out!  I used ASCP in versailles and lots of dark wax to age it.

I actually saw a chest almost identical in English Traditions, a local boutique that I love to stop in for inspiration.  It was priced at $800.  I think my version turned out better(if I do say so myself) and I can do a whole lot more decorating with all the extra money saved.

Enjoy the weekend and stay cool!!

...Happy, Happy Day!!

I am truly blessed with great men in my life!  I have 2 sweet boys, an amazing Dad and the most supportive husband a girl could ask for.

To my dear Husband ~ You bring so much energy and love to this family.  You wake up with a smile on your face and a skip in your step - every. single. day.  And even though I am not a morning person, I appreciate the uncontrollable giggles that come from our children because of you.  Everyday you wrap your arms around your family and take care of us with all your being.  You have the biggest heart and are the smartest man I know(sorry Dad)!  And let's not forget you are my unpaid delivery man, furniture mover and sometimes table sander.  I love you!!

To my dear Father ~ I have never gone one single day without knowing I was completely loved by you!  You have always supported every decision I have made and stood next to me while doing so.  As a parent myself, I now know exactly how hard that must have been for you.  You have given me your gentle nature, taught me compassion for others and how to be strong for myself.  My children adore their Papa and so do I!!

Happy Father's Day to all those special men out there!

...Stuck In The 70's

This chest of drawers was stuck, waaaaay back in the 70's!!  It belonged to my clients husband as a child.  She acquired it and was hoping to use it in the nursery she is putting together.  Her style is graceful and classic and it will be the perfect nursery for her set of twins that will be born.  Her style is not stuck in the 70's.  So we needed to fix that!

This transformation is a true example of how amazing something you already have(that you think is horribly ugly) can look.  All you have to do is look past the brass eagle hardware -yes those were brass eagle pulls on there.

I had this table for sale and she decided to customize it for the nursery.  The stenciling on top adds a little bit of classic whimsy.

This was a fun project to work on!  And knowing it will be for not 1 but 2 sweet babies made it even better.  So thankful to be a part of something that I enjoy so much!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

...Leaving My Color Comfort Zone

I realized I was staying in my comfort zone lately.  I have 2 boys and 1 girl.  Yet I have not done one piece in the past year that would be suitable for my boys.  Shame on me:)!

This piece was given to me by my wonderful neighbor.  I love that the people in my life think to call me when they want to get rid of things.  I am so grateful!  I would describe this piece as coastal cottage meets farmhouse.  And with dark blue and true red coming thru it is definately suitable for a boy!

This piece will be hanging out at my house til I can get it to the Mercantile Mall sometime late next week.  Message me if you are interested and I can bring it to you instead!

....If this chair could talk

If this chair could talk, I just know he would have many, many cool stories to tell!!  He is a really old man that dates back to the 1890's.  My client found him in a old family sheep barn.  It was her Great, Great Grandfather's.  We were able to find out that chairs like these are very rare and in good condition worth quite a bit of money.  He wasn't in good shape.  He was dirty, cracking and had lost a few parts over the years.

He needed a facelift if he was going to make it out of the garage and into the house.  While I understand that someone may be turning over in their grave because I painted it...it doesn't really matter.  My client wanted it to fit into her home decor so she could have a piece of family history.  And that meant he needed to be painted.

This is the before picture.  This picture is misleading.  It looks way better than it did in real life.

I went to work with Paris Grey, Old White and lots of dark wax to age it.

I really had fun working on this piece!  All of the carved detail and the history behind the chair make me dream of all the places he has been.  And I am happy to report that he got moved out of the garage and has a beautiful new spot inside!

Have a fabulous day!
